The Alma Tavern at Norwood is an elegant place to enjoy a more formal dining experience than your typical child friendly venue.

To be honest I wasn’t aware that the Alma was child friendly when I decided to stop there for lunch. I had my children with me and thought I would have a look and see if it was suitable. As soon as I entered the restaurant the staff member who greeted us was so warm and welcoming and greeted the kids as well as us adults and told us that yes kids were most welcome.  Once we were seated the kids were given activity packs, which was not only great to occupy them but a lovely touch that they were given to them free of charge.   They were also offered a ‘Crows’ colouring sheet which was a highlight for my little Crows fan.

The menu at the Alma is extensive and includes options to suit all tastes. The quality of the food is impressive and the flavours will not disappoint.
Children have options such as fish, steak, pasta or chicken skewers and there’s even a toasted sandwich, most come with chips and salad or steamed vegetables – I ordered the fish and steamed vegetables for my kids and I was very impressed. The meal was not only healthy, but well presented and full of flavour, I mention this because it is actually not that common to find this amount of care put into kids meals.

This is a lovely place to dine that will be more accommodating of children than a lot of other restaurants of the same class and it would be perfect for a special occasion. This is not an ideal venue if your children will not be happy to sit at the table throughout the meal.

If you’re after a more casual style meal, you can eat in the bar or Beer Garden areas from 11.30am – 9pm 7 days a week. There is no children’s menu as such, but the menu does include items such as Pizza’s and wedges that could easily be shared with a child. This is a relaxed environment and has a number of tables in varying sizes. Please note that you cannot book tables in this area.

Another thing to mention is that Adelaide Crows players Tex Walker, Patrick Dangerfield & Rory Sloane are usually around the Alma Tavern on Friday afternoons for ‘Bingo’ sessions which they host and they love to get photos with kids and families and are most happy to autograph things too.

Overall the Alma Tavern is a great place to eat with or without the kids. The Restaurant is well presented with a lovely atmosphere, the food is divine and the customer service was excellent and very accommodating of my children during our visit.
